Today’s Europe Day on 9 May commemorates the Schuman Declaration of 1950 and thus the origins of the European Union. This year we are celebrating the 75th anniversary of this common basis for co-operation.
In the current times, in which our continent is increasingly characterised by crises, it is all the more important to remember these common values and to fight for them.
The state capital of Magdeburg does this by awarding the Emperor Otto Prize to outstanding personalities who are committed to Europe and its values, to peace and to living together in diversity.
This year, the prize is being awarded for the 10th time and for the first time honours two artists who unite Europe with their music and connect people across generations under the universal umbrella of music, thus overcoming borders: Igor Levit and Lisa Batiashvili. The award ceremony will take place on 2 July in Magdeburg Cathedral.
