Mission
The Emperor Otto Cultural Foundation primarily promotes and supports projects that raise Magdeburg’s national profile as an important European metropolis of the Middle Ages. The awarding of the prestigious Emperor Otto Prize to internationally recognised personalities and institutions makes a significant contribution to this.
In accordance with the foundation’s statutes, the Emperor Otto Prize is awarded to nationally recognised personalities, groups of people or institutions who have rendered outstanding services to European understanding, culture and local self-government in Germany.
The foundation’s work continues to focus on measures to promote the visual and performing arts, music, literature, theatre, student life and support for Magdeburg’s museums.
