The foundation

Following the outstanding success and the great response throughout Europe to the first European exhibition “Otto the Great, Magdeburg and Europe” in the Museum of Cultural History Magdeburg, which presented the important medieval ruler and his politics at the centre of his reign for the first time in 2001, personalities from the city’s cultural, economic and political spheres came together to establish the Emperor Otto Magdeburg Cultural Foundation. The Emperor Otto Cultural Foundation was finally officially established on 17 April 2003.

The foundation, which is jointly supported by the City and Sparkasse MagdeBurg, consists of a board of trustees, from whose members the foundation’s board of directors is elected and the management appointed.

The Board of Trustees advises, supports and monitors the Executive Board in its activities and determines the guidelines for the foundation’s work. The Chairperson is the respective Mayor of the City Magdeburg. The Executive Board, which consists of three members, must fulfil the purpose of the foundation within the framework of the statutes and the Foundation Act and is appointed for a term of office of three years.
