A good time to review the award ceremony from 2023. On 30 August, the former Slovakian President Zuzana Čaputová received the international Emperor Otto Prize for her unyielding commitment to human rights, freedom, peace and the rule of law. Former German President Joachim Gauck and the then Vice-President of the European Parliament, Katarina Barley, travelled to Magdeburg especially to honour the prizewinner and congratulate the city of Magdeburg on its decision to honour Zuzana Čaputová, a convinced European and visionary.

This year, the Emperor Otto Cultural Foundation and the city of Magdeburg are once again expecting numerous guests from the worlds of politics, business, science and society to attend the award ceremony for Igor Levit and Lisa Batiashvili.
The award and honouring of two internationally renowned creative artists gives the Emperor Otto Prize a new dimension in the 20th year of its first foundation. With their artistic work, both artists take a stand on current conflicts in Europe. As international stars of the music scene, they are also politically engaged with their art and reach an audience of millions in this way.
