Ms Budde, what characterises the two prizewinners?

‘Igor Levit, as a pianist, has distinguished himself through his musical versatility and his critical voice in social debates. He uses his platform to draw attention to important issues such as tolerance, human rights and the importance of art in society.

Lisa Batiashvili, whom I met this year, is an internationally acclaimed violinist who brings people together through her music and promotes intercultural exchange. She is also involved in social projects and is committed to supporting young talent.

Through their work, both artists contribute to strengthening European identity and promoting dialogue between different cultures. Their services to European understanding and peace make them worthy recipients of the Emperor Otto Prize.’
