The former Mayor and honorary citizen of the City of Magdeburg is a committed member of the prize committee for the selection of the Emperor Otto Prize 2025.
He explains why his involvement in the European Peace Prize is important to him:
„During my time as Mayor of the City of Magdeburg, the Emperor Otto Prize was awarded on the occasion of the 1200th anniversary of the city in 2005. All previous prize winners were selected under my leadership. So this prize has grown close to my heart. The prize and its intention are particularly important at a time when the European integration of Eastern Europe seems to be in turmoil.“
