The state capital of Magdeburg and the Emperor Otto Cultural Foundation are proud that Christian Berkel, nationally and internationally acclaimed actor and author, will give the laudatory speech on the occasion of the 10th Emperor Otto Prize award ceremony for this year’s prizewinner Lisa Batiashvili and this year’s prizewinner Igor Levit.
He himself is extremely committed to society and raises his voice when it comes to preserving values such as humanity, decency and dignity. Among other things, he is an ambassador for the foundation Deutschland rundet auf, which campaigns against child poverty. At the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, he is committed to combating right-wing extremism and anti-Semitism. His support for ChildFund Germany, in which he and his wife accompany twelve sponsored children into life, proves that the weakest members of society are particularly close to his heart. He is also a co-founder of PEN Berlin.
