Otto I and Magdeburg – a strong connection
Magdeburg and Otto – the course of history almost prevented this symbiotic alliance. The beginning of the later emperor’s long reign was anything but harmonious. Numerous opponents challenged him for the throne. If Otto had not been granted the assertiveness and skill that would later earn him the title “the Great”, Magdeburg might not be called the City of Otto today. The Kaiser Otto Foundation is committed to this legacy. Established on April 17, 2003, the foundation can now look back on 21 meritorious years.
